Saint Kitts and Nevis

Saint Kitts (officially Saint Christopher) was the first British colony in the Caribbean, established in 1623, and served as the base from which British and French colonization of the region expanded. Sugar production dominated the island's economy for over three centuries; the last sugar cane fields were closed in 2005, ending an era that had defined the island's landscape, society, and economy. The Brimstone Hill Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the best-preserved colonial military installations in the Americas.

Saint Kitts and Nevis launched the world's first citizenship-by-investment (CBI) programme in 1984, allowing foreign nationals to obtain citizenship through qualifying real estate purchases or contributions to a national development fund. This programme has been widely imitated and remains a significant revenue source. Tourism, financial services, and offshore banking are the principal economic sectors. Nevis, the smaller island, is known for its volcanic peak and as the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, the American Founding Father.
