Dominica

Commonwealth of Dominica

Dominica is a small volcanic island in the eastern Caribbean, situated between the French territories of Guadeloupe and Martinique. Unlike many of its neighbours, Dominica has resisted mass tourism development and built an identity around its remarkable natural environment, earning the title of the "Nature Isle of the Caribbean."

About Dominica

Dominica is one of the youngest islands in the Caribbean, still geologically active with boiling lakes, fumaroles, and hot springs. Its rugged interior β€” dense rainforest draped over steep volcanic peaks β€” has made large-scale agricultural development difficult, but has preserved ecosystems of exceptional biodiversity. The island is home to the last significant community of the indigenous Kalinago people, who inhabit a designated territory on the island's northeastern coast.

Hurricane Maria devastated Dominica in 2017, destroying an estimated 90% of the housing stock and causing damage equivalent to more than twice the country's GDP. The reconstruction process reshaped national priorities around climate resilience, with Dominica declaring an ambition to become the world's first climate-resilient nation. The country has also developed a citizenship-by-investment programme that has become a significant revenue source.
